E guete Start is neue Jahr wünsche mir euch aune! Mir hei üsi Wiehnachte und ds Neujahr mit üsne liebe schwizer Fründe hie in Proastio verbracht. D Lisa und dr David hei sogar für Wiehnachtsdekoration gsorgt, uf dr rächte Site vom Biud gseht dir dr griechisch Wiehnachtsboum (e grosse Ast vomene Oliveboum).

We wish you all e good start into the New Year! We enjoyed Christmas and New Year with our swiss friends in Proastio. Lisa and David even decorated their house. On the right side you see their Christmas Tree, a big branch from an Olive Tree.

In Saidona si mir definitiv die einzige Reisende gsi und hei o immer wieder die gliche Lüt gseh, dr Schäfer und d Lüt wo chöme cho Olive pflücke heimer ganz hüfig krüzt. Immer simer freudig begrüesst worde, sigs mit eme Winke oder miteme Huupe. Wahrschinlech si mir unter anderem so use gstoche wüu mir mit üsem Hund gö ga loufe und de ersch rächt no ar Leine.

We were clearly the only foreigners in Saidona and we met the same people on a daily basis. The sheepkeeper, the people of Olive harvest, they always greeted friendly by waving or honking. Probably we stood out like a sore thumb because of walking our dog, especially on a leash.

D Gägend hie isch wunderschön, mir hei vor auem d Bärgregion sehr gschetzt (dr höchscht Bärg hie ir Umgäbig isch dr Profitis Ilias, 2300 m.ü.M. und aktuell mit Schnee bedeckt).

The area here is stunningly beautiful, especially the mountain region. The highest mountain around is Profitis Ilias, 2300 meters above sea, at the moment covered in snow.

Die verlasseni Bärgregion het sich de o sehr guet abotte, mitem Freddy Freigang z trainiere. Mit sim Jagdtrieb und Freiheitsdrang isch das am Afang gar nid so eifach gsi, mittlerwile geits fasch immer ganz guet. Und was sicher isch: är gniesst sini Freiheit enorm.

The lonely mountains were a good chance to train Freddy to walk without his leash. Not the easiest of all things because of his desire to hunt and to enjoy freedom. But in thr meantime it works fairly well. And one thing is for sure: he enjoys his freedom a lot.

Dr Tawan het dr ganz Alternator usboue und gli heimer das Teili gha wo nüm so läng isch wie si Nachbar. Fürs erschte hets mau glängt das Teili e chli z biege und de isch dr Kontakt wieder härgstellt gsi, d Batterie hei ume glade. Klar isch aber gsi, dass mir e neue Alternator bruche. Ds Kalamata heimer glücklicherwys zumene guete Pris es neus Stück gfunde u de gli druf abe iboue. Itz lade d Batterie no besser aus vorhär.

Some days before our planned departure from Saidona Momo started flashing the warning light for batteries, they were no longer charging. Witht he help of a garden hose we found out that the problem was a worn down carbon brush in the alternator. Tawan built out the entire thing and soon found the guilty part, much shorter than its intact neighbour. For a first fix it was enough to bend the piece a little so that the contact could work again, the batteries were charging again. In spite of that we realized that it was time to replace the entire Alternator. We found the needed part in Kalamata for a good price and built that into Momo. Now the batteries are charging better than they did before.

On our walks in the area we tried to get some parts to mend our alternator from old cars left to die in the bushes, unfortunately without success. Others have come before us, almost all parts from those cars gone.

In Saidona heimer vo üsem Vermieter, dr Dimitri no ganz feini Gschänk becho, einisch säuber gmachti, traditionell griechischi Wiehnachtsgüetzi und e riisige Kanister früsches Oliveöl. Mir säge Merci!

In Saidona we recieved very delicious presents from our nice host, Dimitri. First homemade traditional greek cookies and second a huge canister of very delicious, fresh olive oil. Thanks a lot!

Inzwüsche si mir wieder "on the road" u gniesses sehr. Ds Huus het es paar Vorteile gha, aber solangs nid gad e Wuche lang rägnet si mir viu wöhler im Zäut und in nachem Kontakt mit dr Natur. Mir hei mittlerwile wieder es paar Wiudtier gseh: e stattlichi Wiudsou und e Schakal.

In the meantime we are back on the road and enjoy it a lot. The apartment had some advantages, but as long as theres not one entire week of rain we feel more at home in our tent with close contact to nature. We saw a wild boar and a jackal.

Dr Freddy het es paar Täg brucht für sich a Reisealltag z gwöhne, aber mitlerwile isch är vou derbi, gniessts vor auem jede Tag neui Spazierwäge und Grüch z entdecke und mit üs im Dachzelt z schlafe.

Freddy took some days to get used to the daily routine of travel, but by now he's highly motivated, he enjoys new walks and smells every day and loves to sleep in the tent.

He learned pretty fast how to use his 'stairs' in the evening to get up into the tent. When he realized that we are about to go up into the tent the otherwisr patient dog can sometimes get a little bit impatient.

Natürlich bringt dr Freddy sis eigete Gepäck mit uf d Reis. U es isch nid gad wenig. Mir heis mau usgleit für euch, üs und am Freddy z zeige was mir aues so für ihn ume schleppe.

Of course Freddy brought some new things into the car. And its not just a few things. We put all his things into the next picture for us all including him to see what we carry around for him.

Uf üsne Wäge dür d Bärge heimer einisch zwöi Muetterchüe mit ihrne Chälber troffe wo zimlech lang hei brucht, bis sie sich ändlich hinter statt vor üsem Outo ufghaute hei. Vor auem eis Chaub het sich öppe 1 km wyt la tribe und uf ke Art und Wys dervo la überzüge, zrugg zur Muetter z gah.

On our paths through the mountains we once met two cows with their calves. They took quite a time to get from in front of our car to the rear. One calve didnt get how to do that for 1 km, no matter what we tried.

Mir si ganz a d Südspitze vom Peloponnes gfahre, as Kap Tenaro. Der findet sich o eine vo vilne mügliche Igäng zum Hades, dr Unterwält vor griechische Mythologie. Wo hie in Form vore chline Höhli z finde isch.

We drove to the southernmost point of Peloponnes, Kape Tenaro. There we found one of many possible entrances to Hades, the underworld from greek mythology. We found a small cave representing that.

Dr Spaziergang zum Kap Tenaro füehrt üs zumene schöne einsame Lüchtturm.

The walk to Kape Tenaro lead us to a wonderfully lonely lighthouse.

Witer geiz in Richtig Gythio, wo sit 1981 ds Schiff Dimitrios als Wrack am Strand ligt u mittlerwile vom Salz und dä Wälle zimlech mitgno usgesht. We dir weit wüssd wie das dert häre isch cho gits e intrressante Wikipedia Artikel (Dimitrios).

Further we go to Gythio, where one can find the remainders of thr ship 'Dimitrios' since 1981. Its pretty worn down from 40 years of salt and waves. If you are intrested in how it got there you can find a interesting article on Wikipedia (Dimitrios).

Wie scho gseit isch dr Freddy passionierte Jeger. Meischtens begnüegt är sich mit dr Suechi nach Chnöche und Hörner. Einisch het er die grossi Trophäe zrugg bracht.

Like already mentioned: Freddy loves hunting. Luckily he is usually happy with he search for bones and horns. Once he brought an especially great trophy.

Ganz schön isch o Monemvasia gsi, e chlini Stadt mitere schöne Stadtmuur wo versteckt ufeme Fels vor dr Ostküste vom Peloponnes ligt.

We liked Monemvasia a lot. Thats a small city surrounded by a big wall sitting hidden on a rock in front of the eastern coast of Peloponnes.

Freddy is always the first to enjoy views and inspect new things.

On our places where we park for the night we are often visited by huge herds of gosts accompained by sheperds.

In the afternoon its often pretty cold, sometimes around 2°C. In those times Freddy gets a little extra warmth through his blanket until we can go to thd heated tent.

Temperatures can also drop below 2°C, like it did one morning in the mountains where we woke to a mixture of rain and snow. We packef away our dripping wet tent and found ourselves wet and cold to the bones in the car, finally glad to watch the snow from the warm inside.
