Die erschte Azeiche vom Winter

Nach üsne "Ferie" im Mökki si mir wieder ungerwägs u luege üs angeri Teile vo Finnland ah.  

After our "holiday" in Mökki we hit the road again to see more of Finland.

Bi Turku erkunde mir z Schärenmeer uf Teile vom Archipelago Trail, e Tour wo vili grösseri und chlineri Insle zämä per Brügge und Outofährine (wo für aui gratis si) verbindet. Mir verwütsche stundewys ganz schlächts Wätter wo aber gli wieder dür Sunneschiin abglöst wird.

Next to Turku we explored the islands along the Archipelago Trail. That's a tour combining several bigger and smaller islands with bridges and ferries (free of charge). The weather changes every hour from pouring rain to sunshine and back. 

Ungerwägs träffe mir dr Turo, e Finn mit vilne luschtige Gschichte uf Lager. So verzeut dr passioniert Biker, dass er einisch mit sim Bike zimlech schnäu dr Hoger ab gfahre sigi und um d Kurve wo är plötzlich ufene usgwachsne Elch zue gfare sigi. Zum brämse isches z spät gsi und so isch z Bike unter dä Bei vom Elch düre und dr Turo säuber isch i Rumpf vom Elch gfloge. Immerhin het är sich de no bim dervo-trottende Elch entschuldiget. 

Was ihm a Finnland als Biker fählt isch e Bärg. Er wäri o zfriede mit eim einzige. Er wäri gärn bereit, mit de Norweger z tuusche, zum Bispiu gägene See...

We meet Turo, a finnish guy with lots of funny stories. The passioned  mountain biker tells us the story how once he was driving downhill on his bike and around a corner in the middle of the road he met an Elk. He was too fast to be able to brake in time so the bike slid unter the legs of the huge elk and Turo himself flew into the torso of the huge animal. At least he had the decency to excuse himself in front of the elk which just walked away. As a mountain biker he misses a real mountain in Finland. He says he would be happy with just one. He would readily exchange a lake against a norwegian mountain. 

Nächscht Stopp isch dr Nationalpark Liesjärven. O wes in Finnland öppe 188'000 See git, isch dert ganz e spezielle mit eme schmale Landstäg wo dr See i zwöi Ateile trennt.

Next stop: Nationalpark Liesjärven. Even though Finland has roughly 188'000 lakes, the one found here is a special one. It is divided into two parts by a narrow stripe of land.

Vo itz ah fahre mir Richtig Norde. Mir wei dr Oktober nördlich vom Polarkreis nutze, denn hetme relativ gueti Chance Polarliechter chönne z beobachte.

Starting now we are hading north. We want to be north of the polar circle still in october. This increases our chance of spotting norther lights.

Und denn träffe mir z erscht mau ufe Froscht am Morge. Aues im Hafe wo mir übernachtet hei glitzeret ir ufgehende Sunne.

This morning we woke up with with frost all about the tent and the ground around the camp in a small harbour. The whole area is glittering in the sunlight.

Mir gniesse wyterhin wunderschöni Wälder. See gits immer no sehr viu, aber weniger aus im südliche Finnland.

We still enjoy most beautiful forests. There's still lots of lakes, but less than in the southern part of Finland.

Zimlech unerwartet träffe mir churz vor Rovaniemi uf die erschte Rentier. Sie si zwar halb-domestiziert, aber trotzdem mache si e wilde Idruck. Vor auem wo zwöi Männli zämä aföh kämpfe.

A short way south of Rovaniemi we meet the first reindeer-herd. Although they are partially domesticated, they make quite a wild impression on us. Especially when two males begin fighting.

Uf dr wytere Fahrt merke mir, dass die Rentier hie obe gar ke Säuteheit si. Die Iheimische schänke ihne scho gar ke Beachtig meh, während mir bi jedere Glägeheit ahaute u sä bestuune. We sie aber mau vorem Outo si, de sie si no fei e chli schwierig dervo z überzüge, näb d Strass z gah. I eire Rueh trotte si vorem Outo här. U we mä sä probiert z überhole, de schaute sie e Gang uche u sekkle vorem Outo, immer no i die glichi Richtig. Darum hei sie bi de Finne dr Ruef, e chli dumm z si.. 

Driving on we realize that reindeers are not really seldom up here. The locals don't mind them much, but we stop at every single example. But once you got them in front of your car, they can get really annoying. Calmly they just walk along the road in front of you. And if you try to overtake them, they will just accelerate and run in the still same direction. That's why finnish people think them quite stupid.

In Rovaniemi gö mir im "Arctic Laundry" üsi Wösch ga wäsche und chöme völlig unverhofft i Gnuss vore Duschi, gratis aus Agebot für Reisendi wo hie ihri Wösch chöme cho wäsche. Mir nähme das Agebot dankend ah, süsch bedütet für üs e richtigi Duschi immer chli Organisation u e Bsuech vor Tennishalle oder vom Schwümmbad. Derzwüsche bade mir üs aube mit chochendem Wasser.

In Rovaniemi we go laundry cleaning in a wonderful place called "Arctic Laundry". Without any expectation we are offered a nice warm shower in addition to having our laundry done. We thankfully take the offer, since getting a warm shower can be a bit of a hassle once on the road. Usually we visit a tennis court or a swimming hall to get clean again. In between we normally clean ourselves every night with towels and warm water.

Finnland isch wunderbar igrichtet für Lüt wie üs, wo im eigete Outo übernachte. S git fasch überall Trocken-WCs und meischtens de o no e top igrichteti Brätlistell mit Holz wo amene trockene Ort zur Verfüegig steit. Das aues het hüfig e schöne Parkplatz wo mir üs mit üsem Gfährt sehr wohl füehle. Aues darf brucht wärde, solang mä z "Outdoor-Etikett" beachtet - im Prinzip nüt anders aus "Take nothing but memories - leave nothing but footprints". 

Finland is a wonderful place for Overlanding or spending holidays while sleeping in (or on) your car. Almost everywhere you will find dry toilets and often also nice fireplaces with free, dry wood. Most often both is combined with a nice parking lot where you can easily spend the night. You can use everything and park wherever you like, according to every mans right. But you still need to take care of your "Outdoor-Etikett" - in principle nothing else than "take nothing but memories - leave nothing but footprints".

Und ändlich stosse mir ufe erscht Schnee. Mir si mittlerwile scho nördlicher aus dr Polarkreis.

And finally we see the first snow. By now we have crossed the arctic cirle.

A little detour leads us on a hill called "Kaunispää" - we get a good impression of finnish lapland.

Right now wait in patience for our first northern lights while letting snow slowly cover us up.
